Oven discolouration can be unsightly and can really impact the overall presentation of the kitchen. For anyone who has cleaned an oven they will testify the lack of ease in cleaning an oven and in particular, the cooked on grime off oven glass.
While Hire a Butler offers services to alleviate the stresses and strenuity of cleaning your own oven, we’ve formulated a list of simple steps to follow to help for those looking for a challenge.
To begin with, you’ll need to gather the following items:
- Baking Soda
- Water
- Dish Soap
- Scourer
- Damp Rag
- Dry Microfiber Cloth
Step 1.
Firstly, start by mixing the baking soda, dish soap and water to create a paste. While there are no specific measurements, ideally you’ll want approximately 1 cup of baking soda, 1 tbsp of dish soap and just enough water to form a pancake like batter. Adjust these measurements accordingly to how dirty your oven is, for instance, a dirtier oven may require you to add more baking soda.
Step 2.
Then, using your fingers, spread the paste you’ve just made all over the dirty spots in your oven. Applying it evenly, focus on adding more paste to more tough or greasy areas, without forgetting to do the glass and door during the process.
Step 3.
Now, using your phone or a timer, leave your oven to absorb the mixture and eat at the dirt and corrosion for no less than 15 minutes.
Step 4.
Once 15 minutes or so has passed, using a scourer, scrub the areas that have been soaking in the mixture. The combination of baking soda and dish soap makes for the ideal oven cleaner as it dissolves any unnecessary grime, enabling you to wipe away the dirt with ease.
Step 5.
Using the wet rag, wipe off as much of the excess baking soda and dish soap mixture as possible. Rinsing off the rag after each wipe, continue to remove the the mixture until it’s all gone.
Step 6.
Finally, as the use of the baking soda often leaves a residual misty hue to your oven, take a dry microfiber cloth and use it to polish it up and make it shine.
And that’s it – After following these simple steps you should be left with an oven so spotless, you could even eat off of it!
